Overview

The Director of Finance (DF) is responsible for ensuring organizational effectiveness by providing leadership for the organization’s financial and business functions. As a part of Concurrency leadership, the DF works closely with the other members of the Executive Team to contribute to the creation and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices. The DF is a strategic, hands-on and participative manager who owns all of accounting operations and finance. It is important that the DF has prior experience in a professional services organization and understands a model that includes utilization, bill, rates, fixed bid, etc.  

 

The DF leads, develops, and assists an internal team to support the following areas: finance, business planning and budgeting, administration, benefits, legal, and facilities. The DF directs and coordinates activities of the financial and business area with other facets of the organization, including establishing and maintaining quality standards of accounting, (in accordance with “Generally Accepted Accounting Principles”), overseeing the development of efficient work procedures and processes in order to increase organization’s effectiveness, providing strategic analysis and advice to the President and ensuring ample security for materials, assets and information. This position oversees all accounting functions of the company, including managing audits (reviews), directing the annual budget process, ensuring compliance with applicable contract and regulatory reporting requirements, managing fiscal transactions, tracking cash flow, ensuring the timely completion of financial reporting, analyzing and interpreting statistical and accounting information and forecasting fiscal position to management.

Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Partners with the Executive team on operational and strategic issues, providing recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
  • Participates in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the Executive Team.
  • Develops bonus plans for billing and non-billing employee incentive plans
  • Oversees short and long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Oversees the continual improvement of accounting and administrative operational systems, processes and policies in support of organization’s mission.
  • Plays a significant role in long-term implementation planning, leading initiatives geared toward operational excellence.
  • Engages Management around issues, trends and changes affecting the operating model and operational delivery.
  • Research and implementation of best-in-class benefit plans and programs.
  • Understand the Microsoft Ecosystem and ensure that our relationship and transactions remain compliant both internally and externally.

Financial and Operations Management

  • Oversees overall financial management, planning, systems and controls for the organization.
  • Oversees the general accounting function which includes inter-company transactions, cash management/reconciliation for multiple accounts, financial reporting and balance sheet management.
  • Ensures that the organization’s financial records are maintained in compliance with organizational policies and GAAP.
  • Creates and manages the organizational budget in coordination with the Executive and Leadership Team.
  • Ensures organization of fiscal documents and corporate records
  • Participates in regular meetings with President around fiscal planning.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Team develops annual budget, monitors revenue and expenses to insure compliance.
  • Monitors financial performance of the organization.
  • Reviews accounting activities to ensure that a standard level of internal controls and audit procedures and techniques are applied.
  • Responsible for the oversight and review of organization payroll, monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other filings to ensure compliance.
  • Develops work procedures or processes to provide the necessary controls on the organization’s assets.
  • Monitors and executes all contract compliance, including timely reporting and billing.
  • Ensures the organization’s financial reports are prepared in compliance with policies and directives of external users.
  • Ensures adequate fiscal processing and systems to prepare required reports.
  • Coordinates the annual financial audit, Worker’s Compensation audit, insurance audit and sales tax audits.
  • Ensures the completion of federal and state tax reporting requirements, insurance reports and other governmental regulation.
  • Provides technical assistance to accounting, resources and administrative staff.
  • Ensures that regular updates to accounting software and systems are completed.
  • Accountable for ensuring departmental policies and procedures are in place and updated regularly to provide reasonable assurance that the organization’s assets are protected.
  • Ensures maintenance of all financial, contract, payroll and personnel files.
  • Oversees long-and short-term debt management.
  • Lead on benefits and compliance.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains, develops and directs accounting and administrative staff.
  • Ensures completion of orientation and training requirements by direct reports.
  • Motivates staff to achieve goals through individual and team supervision, coaching, goal setting, training and staff development, among other strategies.
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
  • Accountable for positive team moral.

Other Duties:

  • Maintain relationships with bankers, all insurance brokers, attorneys, and accountants.
  • Coordinate and lead Rhythm of Business
  • Leads Administrative Team meetings when applicable.
  • PSA/SOW/Vendor Agreement review and updates on an annual basis
  • Travel and Entertainment policies and issues.
  • Schedule monthly, quarterly and annual executive meetings.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in the profit sector.
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (MBA or CPA Preferred), plus, a minimum of ten years of professional level experience performing varied and responsible accounting or business management involving the use of electronic data processing systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices as well as budgeting, purchasing, and electronic data processing applications.
  • Demonstrated success with creating annual forecasts for the business.
  • Experience managing a variety of tasks.
  • Demonstrated success and experience as a supervisor of accounting and administrative staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn and apply complex governmental guidelines relating to accounting, personnel, purchasing and management information reporting systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with a networked computer system preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Assertive, high-energy self-starter.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

This position is required to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of fiscal analysis, procedures, coordination, and management.
  • Perform intermediate and advanced computer functions.
  • Attend applicable training programs.
